Getting started
Knowing how to take the first step with advertising can be a challenge. Let’s learn about how Farah Finds got started.
What were the biggest challenges preventing you from getting started with Amazon Ads?
Over the years, I’ve found that Amazon Ads has continually improved and expanded upon their product catalog, offering more placements and advertising opportunities. With these advancements, I realized that I needed to learn how these changes and improvements could affect my bottom line and how to invest in them strategically. I have invested time in learning and using free resources like the learning console, specifically I recommend everyone undertake the Sponsored ads certification. These resources have allowed me to feel a lot more confident in running ads.
How did you select the ASINs to include in your first Sponsored Products campaign?
I started with my new product collection ASINs that had just become available. I wanted to increase the visibility of my new product collection and see if advertising would help increase sales overall.
Using Sponsored Products has helped me increase sales volume. I have also since learned how important it is during the high seasons for my products, as advertising may increase visibility of my product listings and helps connect new shoppers with my brand.
What is your advice for sellers who are considering registering for Amazon Ads?
Give it a shot. Advertising can help improve visibility of your products. Stick to a daily budget that you are comfortable with spending.
Early days
When you first start advertising, it can take time to learn the best campaign settings and strategy for your business. Farah Finds shares her advice on how to be patient and learn about ads.
What are your top tips for advertisers who are just getting started?
- Digital advertising can help bolster traffic beyond your organic reach. Amazon Ads is a great tool to help increase traffic to your products, so I recommend to include it in your marketing strategy.
- Any budget is enough. Set what you are comfortable with and adjust which product you advertise depending on seasonality.
- Track your sales data. Total sales - paid sales = organic sales. It is likely that you will see that running your ads in the right season for your products, may help you increase your total sales.
What steps did you take to create your first Sponsored Products campaign?
I started with a Sponsored Products campaign with automatic-targeting, which allows your ads to automatically reach potential customers based on keywords and products. Amazon gave me good suggested bids and targeting, so I accepted those recommendations within campaign builder.
Finding your stride
Once you have created a few campaigns, it might make sense to explore new campaign strategies or diversify which advertising products you use to advertise with Amazon Ads.
How has your advertising strategy evolved?
I use a combination of ad types with different goals, specifically:
- Sponsored Products: I run these throughout the year and adjust based on seasonality. My goal is to help increase product sales.
- Sponsored Brands: I mostly run these during the high season for my products; during the off-season, I will activate where I see low advertising cost of sales (ACOS) for my campaigns. My goal is to increase awareness and help drive traffic to my Brand Stores. I also use Sponsored Brands video ads to showcase my products in action.
- Sponsored Display: I run a handful of these based on audiences and for reengaging shoppers, mostly for the high season demand.
What is your advice for advertisers who are hitting their stride with Amazon Ads?
Use the Amazon Ads learning console and practice running ads. Test and learn. Set a goal of running Amazon Ads yourself or in-house for the next year. It will help you set better benchmarks and KPIs, and it can help you have better control over your business.
