Nickel Boys from Amazon MGM Studios earns Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay

Amazon MGM Studios’ Nickel Boys has been nominated for two Academy Awards, earning nods for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film, directed by RaMell Ross, is based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and chronicles the powerful friendship between two Black teenagers who become wards of a juvenile reformatory in Florida. Ross wrote the screenplay alongside Joslyn Barnes. The Oscar nominations cap a glittering awards season for Nickel Boys, which also earned Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, Writers Guild, and BAFTA award nominations, among others.
Amazon MGM Studios creates stories that audiences and critics love
The Academy Awards nominations continue an impressive run for Amazon MGM Studios. In total, Amazon MGM Studios earned eight Golden Globe nominations, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross taking home the Best Original Score trophy for Challengers. In September, Amazon MGM Studios won seven Primetime Emmy Awards, including two each for Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Fallout. At the 2024 Academy Awards, American Fiction, the social satire from director Cord Jefferson and starring Jeffrey Wright, took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film, based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Wright and Sterling K. Brown were nominated for acting categories in lead and supporting roles, respectively. The film also received a nomination for Best Original Score.
